What is "Email Quota" mean?

Email quota is the space provided by email provider on their web space to their email user to save email account data. Those data may be of different type. Here are some of the type of email Data.

• Emails which have been received by email recipients or you can say email user. Those emails may be of different format like html, rich, plain. those email saved in the "Inbox" folder of email account.
• Email attachments is the type of email data which have been sent by some email sender to email recipient in email attachments various types of files can be sent to the email recipients.
• Spam emails are also a type of email data on which email provider think that the particular email is not a valid email.
• Sent email in these type of email data email provider save the emails which has been sent by the email user.

That is about email quota and what type of data you can save on emails.

How can my "email quota" become "over quota"?

Before I describe about the reason to become an email quota to "over quota" we need to know What is this Email Quota Mean? First you need to know that the Email quota become over quota only when if you don't have any space remaining on your email account to save the upcoming data or email. In other words when the limit of the storing data on your web based email server exceed from provided limit by email provider your email account is in "over quota".

Now here are some of the reasond because your email quota become "over quota".

• Use of Email program - When you use email program like outlook or thundebird and you have set up the setting on your email account that "Don't delete email after downloading" then after some time your email quota become over quota because of excess of emails on web based email server.
• Email attachments If you are using your email for all the purpose then might be possible that the email account will become over quota soon if the email you are receiving have been containing large email attachments.
• Setting of spam folder If your email account's spam folder have been not enable by default then you probably get lot of emails which comes into the category of spam emails because those emails mode mostly on html format. so the size of the email has been much larger than normal email. It may also cause the email quota to become over quota.

What Can  happen If my Mailbox Email Quota goes to Over Quota?

There are Some possibility which may cause you email account when you your email qouta become over quota.

• It may be possible that you can't be able to receive upcoming emails.
• It is also possible that your email provider delete some of the emails from spam folder to make space for upcoming emails.

Those are the two possibility which may come if your email quota become over quota.

How to maintain your "email quota on below quota"?

• Use Email program like outlook or thunderbird to manage your email account and set up the setting on web based interface to delete email when email has been downloaded by email program.
• If you are managing your email account from web based interface of email provider then remove the email  having large size email attachments.
• Use spam filter to manage the spam email so spam email can be deleted by email provider's spam filter.

While using those steps you can make your email quota as below quota and your email quota will never become an "Over quota".

Is it possible to increase the limit of my email quota?

The answer is may or may not. It may possible only if you change the email account type from free email service to paid email service and it may not be possible if you remain on same type of email account and your email provider doesn't provide the option to change the size of email quota.
